The Champions League game took over Twitter Nigeria as fans bantered and conversed about the fixture all night.

The Champions League returned on Tuesday night with a heavy game at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain which the French champions won 2-0.

Second half goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappé gave Paris Saint-Germain a 2-0 advantage ahead of the second leg in France.

The game took over Twitter Nigeria as fans bantered and conversed about the fixture all night.

As at 90 minutes, all the items on Twitter Nigeria trends were from the game.

‘#MUNPSG’ which was the hashtag for the game was the number one trending topic in the country while ‘Sanchez’ was number two.

Sanchez flops

Much of the conversations around Alexis Sanchez who came on just before halftime were of disappointment after he failed to have an impact in the game.

‏”Imagine paying Sanchez almost 500k every week, unlocking Pogba and comparing Rashford to Mbappe. Just to be beaten like 0-2 in your own home,” Twitter user @oluwapower said.

“EFCC should investigate Jose Mourinho, for the Lukaku, Sanchez and Fred transfers,” @SegunThePundit wrote.

“Alexis Sanchez is finished. Get him out,” @Nigerianscamsss said.

Neymar missing but present

Despite missing the game through injury, Neymar was the number three trending topic on Twitter Nigeria as fans praised Paris Saint-Germain’s performance without their star player.

“I know Neymar makes PSG aesthetically pleasing but when he doesn’t play, they are a solid unit. Thiago Silva served a reminder of his top quality tonight but Marquinhos and Verratti were class acts,” @olywal wrote.

“So Manchester United fans were relieved because Neymar & Cavani were absent and boom! they came alive,” @DaddyTheBoy said.

“Football may not be mathematics but if PSG won 2-0 without Neymar and Cavani we can only imagine how big the defeat would have been if those guys were around,” @ChumaNnoli wrote.

“No Neymar no Cavanni but they are two goals up and it is not even 70 minutes yet. But the French league is for farmers. There is nothing strong or weak about a league. A good team will show it’s strength anytime any day,” @omaakatugba said.

Rashford, Mbappe debate

Twitter Nigeria also believe the Marcus Rashford and Mbappe comparison is dead following the Manchester United’s frustrating night as his Paris Saint-Germain counterpart disturbed the Red Devils’ defence all night.

“If you ever compare Rashford to Mbappe again, I’ll find you and shoot you in the damn head. Survivors will be shot again,” @francease wrote on Twitter.

“So we’ve officially settled the Mbappe VS Rashford debate,” @tobyybanksz said.

“Where did that Mbappe- Rashford comparison stem from though? Rashford isn’t even at Dembele’s level. Mind you, Dembele is a level below Mbappe,” @Folarinfotos wrote.

“That ends anybody’s Rashford v Mbappe argument,” @Tayo_Temiloluwa said.

Former United forward Ángel Di María ruffled the Old Trafford crowd who booed him all night. But he shut them with two assists and was trending topic also on the night.

“Four years ago, Di Maria paid burglars to break into his own house at Manchester just to leave your club.. Today, he walked into your theatre to kill your dreams. And you still think you’re a big club?,” Twitter user @OlaTheOG said.

“Di Maria and Mbappe doing tricks with 20 minutes still to go. The disrespect,” @_Zeets said.

“Di Maria left your club…came to your house…got 2 assists…drank your Heineken and went home. I’m having hedek,” @IAmTheAyology wrote.

“Di Maria assisting Kimpembe and Mbappe in killing Manchester United, Black Maria,” @I_pissVodka wrote.

Other trending items on the night include ‘Cavani’ for the striker Edinson Cavani who was missing through injury, ‘Kimpembe’ who opened scoring for Paris Saint-Germain, ‘Martial’ for Anthony Martial who got injured the first half and ‘Mbappe’ who ran riot against the Red Devils.
